Google: The web browser will be the Operating System in future

CEO of Google China said: we never plan to develop a new Operating System for computer, because in future all the services are built on the cloud computing and operating system will be replaced by web browser gradually. The web browser will be the new operating system in future.

CEO of Google China said: Many people asked me whether we want to develop our own operating system, but why we need to? In future all computers only need good web browsers, and it is unnecessary for Google to develop a new Operating System which will be out of date. 15 years ago, 95% of software applications were built on the operating system, and soon in future, all the applications can be accessed on the web browser, just liked Windows replaced DOS.

Experts believe that Google’s idea is current trend, and it is definitely traditional operating system will be replaced by web browser. This is the ambitious plan of Google. At the time when Microsoft distributed its Window OS, It asked many software developers to develop the applications which are compatible with window. Now Google is also using the same strategy on the social network now, and developed the API which can allow external developers to use as their developing template.

However, in this moment it is impossible to replace Operating System with the web browser. There are still many applications need the stand-along operating system to run, for example, the Photoshop, online game etc..
